A Journey from Investment to Community Impact
Transforming Communities Through Compassion
In the early 2000s, Dwight Anderson, the founder of Lease on Life Housing Company, began his journey in the real estate sector, frequently traveling between New York and Charlotte, NC. Recognizing the potential in distressed neighborhoods, Dwight invested in properties with the goal of rehabilitating both the homes and the communities they were part of. His work went beyond mere property investment; Dwight saw firsthand the challenges facing many individuals in these communities, particularly the barriers to stable housing for those struggling with addiction and substance abuse.
Addressing the Substance Abuse Crisis in North Carolina
As Dwight deepened his investment in North Carolina, he became acutely aware of the rising substance abuse crisis, especially the widespread impact of opioid use. What began as an urban issue had expanded into suburban and rural areas across the state, affecting people of all backgrounds and economic statuses. The challenges to sobriety were evolving, with substances like opioids, benzodiazepines, fentanyl, and methamphetamine becoming more prevalent alongside traditional substances like alcohol and heroin.
Establishing a Path to Recovery
With a strong foundation in housing investment and a growing commitment to community service, Dwight felt called to do more. By 2017, he was ready to transition from property rehabilitation to establishing sober living homes designed to support individuals in their recovery journey. He envisioned creating transitional and long-term residential facilities where men and women could find the stability and support they needed to overcome addiction.
